-Most rescues are full right now, because of the poor economy and how
many people are becoming backyard breeders to make a quick buck. The
number of unwanted pets is the highest it's ever been. People aren't
buying dogs, but that doesn't stop the backyard breeders from continuing
to breed unwanted litters. Many times, they end up surrendering the
puppies to shelters after not being able to sell them. This is
especially true for pit bulls, which as you can see by visiting any shelter. |

So this afternoon my husband, Eric, was driving his moped through East Atlanta when he saw a small Poodle dart out in the middle of traffic on Moreland AVE right by I-20, an extremely busy road in Atlanta. Three cars screeched to a halt, barely missing the little, terrified dog. My husband followed him into a parking lot and cornered him into a fenced in area.
We keep leashes in the car for situations just like this, but because Eric was driving the moped, he didn't have away of leashing the dog. |

We are based out of South East Atlanta. Most of our community outreach is done in the following Atlanta neighborhoods: East Atlanta, South Atlanta, Lakewood Heights, Pittsburgh, and Grant Park. Many of these neighborhoods have packs of feral dogs due to the high level of strays and abandoned pets in the areas. The Lakewood Heights Community Association recently donated funds for us to purchase a large, high quality, humane dog trap after several residents noticed a couple of aggressive pregnant moms in the pack. |
