So yesterday, I told Karree to be at our house at 10:30 am sharp to start his internship. His mom told me he was so excited and sure enough there was a knock on the door at 10:25. When I opened the door I was surprised to see Karree had another younger boy with him. He introduced me to his cousin Steve and explained that he was in charge of watching him today and he wanted to know if he could come with us. Since Steve is only 11, I told him I would have to get a volunteer release form signed by one of his parents. |

In order to understand this update you need to read these two blog posts:
Diamond and the puppies are doing great! We got an extra large dog bed for her and she immediately put all of her babies in there. She also got a Kong, an antler, and a stuffed marrow bone. She is one happy dog! I was really troubled by the confrontation I had Saturday with the man in the parking lot. |

March 17, 2012, St. Patrick's Day: This morning my day started off with trying to help animal control with a pack of stray dogs that have become aggressive and neighbors have been calling them daily for the past few weeks. After we were able to set a trap, the AC officer got a call about 2 abandoned pit bulls at a vacant house just a block away. He asked if I wanted to come with him, so we hopped in the truck and headed that way. All of a sudden my gut told me it was probably the dogs belonging to Karree, the 15 year-old that had come by our house earlier in the week, I told the officer about that situation, you can read that story here: |

So this morning we get an unexpected knock on the door. I look out the blinds and see a young teen there with a pit bull. I ask him what he wants and he asks if I'm the lady that does pit bull rescue. I take a deep breath knowing this is probably not going to be good news and I open the door. We sit on the front porch and he tells me he needs to give away 11 pit bull puppies that are only two weeks old immediately. Two weeks ago, I got a call from Kate who is the local director of the Coalition to Unchain Dogs. |

We are working on compiling an extensive list of spay/neuter clinics and programs in GA. If you know of a spay/neuter clinic or resource, please leave a comment with the following information and we'll add it to our list. If you contact a resource and find it's no longer active, please leave a comment so we can update that listing: -Name of clinic or program -County -Address -Phone # -Website -Email Address -Cost -Are there qualifications the applicant must meet? -Any other important details we should include in the listing? |

This morning we headed out the door at 7am to help transport four owned pit bulls to Lifeline Spay & Neuter Clinic in College Park
The owners were very kind people who loved their four pit bulls, but after hearing the story of how they came to acquire their dogs, I thought it needed to be shared. Here's a photo of two of the pit bulls in our car (it's not a very good photo because it was dark and taken with a camera phone):
To start with, they had one male pit bull that was not neutered. |

So this afternoon my husband, Eric, was driving his moped through East Atlanta when he saw a small Poodle dart out in the middle of traffic on Moreland AVE right by I-20, an extremely busy road in Atlanta. Three cars screeched to a halt, barely missing the little, terrified dog. My husband followed him into a parking lot and cornered him into a fenced in area.
We keep leashes in the car for situations just like this, but because Eric was driving the moped, he didn't have away of leashing the dog. |
